Protein identification from one or two-dimensional electrophoresis gels

Protein bands or spots are excised from the gel in our laboratory. The gels can be stained with Coomassie Blue, silver stain, Sypro Ruby. When using other staining protocols than the ones described here, please contact us to determine if these are compatible with our procedures. Cleanliness during electrophoresis and gel handling (during the staining process or while scanning) is of the utmost importance. Dust and fingerprints contain keratins that can obscure signals from the proteins of interest.

After destaining, the protein gel bands are digested with a proteolytic enzyme, most commonly trypsin. The individual digests are then analyzed by mass spectrometry.
